Cagayan Province is located in the Cagayan Valley region in the northern part of the Philippines. Its capital is Tuguegarao City . There are different stories as to the etymology of Cagayan. One is from the term “Catagayan,” meaning “the place where tagay grows.” Tagay is a type of plant that is endemic to the northern province.
